Term-LAB troubleshooting
problem: when you attempt to activate the Term-LAB software you are informed that the activation code 'does not match'.
this is the most common call we receive. typically, this is caused when the user forgets to run instacal prior to attempting to activate the Term-LAB software.
make sure Term-LAB is attached to your computer.
- run instacal. (start/all programs/measurement computing/instacal). instacal must detect the 'Term-LAB USB' device before you try to activate Term-LAB.
- once instacal has detected the 'Term-LAB USB' device and it shows up in the 'board list', exit instacal and launch Term-LAB to activate the software.
if the 'Term-LAB USB' device does not show up in the board list, you must start over. you must uninstall and then reinstall as outlined in the instructions.
problem: when i launch Term-LAB the startup bargraph reaches 100% and then stops. or, the program exits.
make sure Term-LAB is not running in 'compatibility mode'.
Instacal Driver
- right-click on the Term-LAB desktop icon.
- select 'properties'
- click on the 'compatibility' tab.
- make sure none of the checkboxes are selected.
make sure an existing Term-LAB process is not running.
- press ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Windows task manager.
- click on the 'processes' tab.
- make sure Term-LAB is not displayed in the list of running processes. if it is, select Term-LAB and then click on 'end process'
problem: instacal detects the Term-LAB USB device but i receive an error message stating that 'the serial number does not match' when activating the software.
if you previously activated the software before running the instacal utility for the first time, you will need to contact whe to resolve the problem.
if you are ceRTAin that you ran instacal (and instacal detected the Term-LAB USB device) before attempting to activate the software, please do the following...
- run instacal
- double-click on the Term-LAB USB device in the 'board list'.
- please make a note of the 'factory serial number'. contact whe with this number.
problem: Windows gives you a message that 'the attached device has malfunctioned' when you attach Term-LAB to the computer.
this is typically caused by a loose processor chip on the pcb. (Maybe the box was dropped, etc.)
Instacal File
- disconnect Term-LAB from your computer.
- remove the two screws from the bottom of the interface housing.
- remove the top lid of the Term-LAB interface box.
- locate the large (postage stamp size) processor chip on the pcb.
- use your thumb to press down firmly on the center of the chip. (you May or May not feel the chip move in the socket.)
- attach the Term-LAB USB box to the computer and watch the green status light on the interface box. it should flash 3 times and then turn green.
- replace the lid and then replace the two screws.
